The importance of teamwork

"Can you give me an example of a time when you had to work as part of a team and how that went?"... It’s an old favourite that’s probably made an appearance in at least one interview in everyone’s career. The fact that this sort of question has carved out a place for itself as a well-worn cliché tells us that teamwork has and probably always will be a massively beneficial discipline for companies and their people to harness. Whether you are part of a team or manage one, would it be stretching it to say the relationship you have with your team is probably one of the most important in your life? After all, most of us spend the majority of our week at work as part of one and depend on its success to pay our salaries.

The benefits of a collaborative way of working and thinking have most definitely come to the fore in recent years. Perhaps as people are being pushed for new, more creative results the great value in bringing together a variety of skills and viewpoints is beginning to emerge. Synergy, or when something’s created that’s greater than the sum of its parts, is the word that comes to mind here. Instead of the solitary genius waiting around for inspiration to strike and their ‘gift’ to take over, the team reaches unexpected new territories by applying their individuality to a common goal. Teamwork probably doesn’t paint quite as exciting or mysterious a picture as that solitary talent, blazing their own trail at any cost – but it’s probably more achievable, and accurate in a lot of cases.

Most of us could probably identify Ernest Hemingway and his works – but what about his editor, Maxwell Perkins the man who helped Hemingway craft the author’s minimal style that cemented his place in the history books of the literary world? While we tend to absent-mindedly credit individuals with creative outcomes, the reality is usually never that simple. Often, it’s a case of expert support that enables and unlocks those gold dust ideas, that special place where the magic happens.

It’s something we’ve had great results from ourselves. We’ve written before about how we like to ‘partner’ with our clients and offer them ideas on ways to approach certain projects that they may not have considered. As inspiring a read as our catalogue is, we appreciate not everyone has time to pour over the thousands of options it contains – and nor could we fit all the options in! We love being part of the team that offers food for thought, new ideas and perspectives. Relationships like these are always the best ones as they allow us to do our best work – and most importantly create an environment where our clients can benefit from the most creative solution. Our commitment to and dependence on your success means more efficiency and generally results that you might not have been thought possible before.

So, why go it alone? Even the best of the best had a little helping hand to help get them there. If you’re looking for a team player, we might just be what you’re after.
